MICROSOFT ACQUIRE CODING SITE GITHUB FOR $7.5 BILLION Microsoft said on Monday it would buy privately held coding website Git Hub Inc. for $7.5 billion in an all-stock deal to expand its clout among software developers. GitHub supplies coding tools for developers and calls itself the world's largest code host with more than 28 million developers using its platform. "Microsoft is a developer-first company, and by joining forces with GitHub we strengthen our commitment to developer freedom, openness and innovation," said Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella said in a statement. YOUTUBE TOPS TEEN SOCIAL MEDIA,AS FACEBOOK FADS:SURVEY Youtube is dominating social media use among teenagers, as facebook fades from popularity, according to a new survey. A Pew Research Center survey shows that 85% of US teens, ages 13 to 17, use YouTube, compared with 72 percent for the facebook owned instagram and 69 percent for Snapchat. Use of the main Facebook service is at 51 percent among teens, down from 71 percent in a 2014-2015 Pew survey. Pew didn't speculate on a reason for the drop, though historically, teens often shun services once they become mainstream - and used by their parents. Pew also says 95 percent of teens now have a smartphone or access to one, up from 73 percent during the prior survey. Pew also notes that 45 percent of teens say they use the internet "almost constantly," nearly double from the previous survey.
